Molly’s Carol

Snow all around, a silent night
It’s been a long day, and the house is quiet
In a darkened home, there stirs only one
She’s a mother concerned for her son

It’s a Christmas unlike any other
Full of the worry of this humble mother
Three children are wandering across this land
On a mission she can’t understand

She goes to the crèche and adjusts the star
Moves a small shepherd, a Wise Man from far
She touches the Mary and the infant Christ
He’s a child born for sacrifice

She thinks of poor Harry, of her son’s best friend
She can’t help but wonder how it all will end
He, too, was a baby born with a fate
And she weeps at this hour so late

The lights on the tree highlight her tears
But it’s the old story that soothes all her fears

She goes to the crèche and adjusts the star
Moves a small shepherd, a Wise Man from far
She touches the Mary and the infant Christ
He’s a child born for sacrifice

She touches the Christ Child and catches her breath
Hark! He’s a child born to conquer death
