Shell Cottage

As I sit here at Shell Cottage
Looking out across the sea
The sun sets on the horizon
And I’m looking out, but looking into me

Everyone’s been hurting around me
Worried for their mothers, sisters, brothers, wives and children
And everyone’s been hurting around me
Waiting for an end that still seems so far in the distance

I look at shallow graves and think of those I couldn’t save
I watch the setting sun and wonder when I will be done

As I sit here at Shell Cottage
Looking out across the sea
The sun sets on the horizon
And I’m looking out, but looking into me

Everyone’s been dying around me
If it’s for the greater good, what separates good from evil?
Well, everyone’s been dying around me
I see that my inaction and stalling have gone on too long

The dawn sneaks up on me and shows me things I couldn’t see
I see the path ahead, specifically and without dread

As I sit here at Shell Cottage
Looking out across the sea
The sun sets on the horizon
And I’m looking out, but looking into me
